District Court employees donated paper, tissues, paper towels, notebooks, crayons and other supplies to help teachers at a downtown elementary school meet the demand of the new school year. The names of schools, within a three-mile radius of the Regional Justice Center at 200 Lewis Ave., were entered into a random drawing for the supplies. Halle Hewetson Elementary was the winning school to receive the drop-off of supplies.

The supply drive is part of the District Court Cares initiative to contribute to the community. Hewetson principal Mark Connors thanked the drop-off team, led by Chief Judge Jerry Wiese. Principal Connors conveyed the supplies are much-needed and will go to good use. He even said that a big box of rubber bands will be used for STEM projects.

A huge thank you was sent to all those who donated school supplies “It’s nice to be of service to the community,” said Chief Judge Wiese. “We all know that teachers buy many of their own school supplies, and it was a pleasure being able to be part of an effort to help them and show them that our District Court Cares.”

District Court also promotes education and knowledge about the justice system in local schools including, mock trial, tours and other activities.
