Attorneys at the Civil Bench Bar today had the ear of nine judges who were in attendance for the interactive forum. Commissioner Bonnie Bulla’s summary included a reminder that law firms should have a folder for their firm on the first floor bin area at the RJC.  She gave an update on proposed rules changes regarding experts. It was reported that the state Supreme Court will be considering the rules changes. Attorneys are encouraged to view the proposed changes and comment. Judge Villani announced that at each future meeting a judge will give a short presentation on tips for attorneys. He also announced that 60 to 70 percent of cases that go to settlement conferences get settled.  Attorneys had questions about settlement conferences and scheduling.  The judges expressed a willingness to be flexible to work with attorneys on scheduling. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 17 at noon in courtroom 11A.  The Bench/Bar meetings are a great opportunity to get answers to those nagging questions and help you get to the root of what judges are looking for. If you can’t make the meeting post your questions and we’ll pose them.
