Presiding Civil Judge Nancy Allf and Presiding Criminal Judge Tierra Jones spoke on the many accomplishments of Judge Bell. Judge Jones called Judge Bell a mentor and someone she modeled herself after. Both Judge Allf and Judge Jones ticked off a long list of groundbreaking innovations Judge Bell successfully implemented at the court including electronic orders, warrants, and central trial readiness. “She took this entire court and placed this court on her back to lead us through this entire pandemic. We have made a lot of changes and some of those things we are never going to go back to,” “We don’t just call ourselves a paperless court, now, we actually are,” said Judge Jones.

”It is such a tremendous honor to receive an award in the name of Miriam Shearing, who I consider a mentor and a friend,” said Judge Bell. “I feel like I should have a thousand other people standing up here.” She then named a long list of people who have helped to navigate the difficult times of the pandemic. She closed by thanking her parents, her daughter, her aunt and her friends.

Chief Judge Bell has been serving in department 7 since 2009, handling civil and criminal cases, managing Grand Juries and overseeing the criminal division specialty courts. She has been a driving force in the proliferation of specialty courts, which have had a significant positive impact in the community.

In addition to serving on numerous legal associations, boards and educational committees for various organizations, she has taught both criminal law and criminal procedure at UNLV and done extensive volunteer work to further legal knowledge for youth in the community.
