"COPE" Seminar for Separating Parents
GENERAL INFORMATION
Local court rules require separating parents to attend a parenting seminar. This seminar is commonly referred to as "COPE class". The seminar is designed to teach parents how to help their children handle the separation. The seminar must be completed within 45 days of service of the initial complaint or petition upon the defendant.

Q. Is there a fee to attend the COPE seminar?
A. There is a $40.00 fee per person to attend the seminar.
Q. What if I cannot attend the seminar?
A. Local court rules allow the judges to waive the attendance requirement for "good cause". The judge will decide what constitutes good cause.
Q. Who must attend the seminar?
A. All parents who are involved in any of the following case types:
- Annulment
- Custody
- Divorce
- Paternity
- Separate Maintenance
