Mock Trial Asks, "Did Humpty Dumpty Fall or Was He Pushed?"
April 30 , 2010 Juvenile jurors from Mrs. Estrada's and Miss Fellows' fourth grade classes at the Henderson International School concluded that Roy L. Kingsman was not guilty in the death of Humpty Dumpty. The mock trial was part of 2010 Law Month activities and was organized by District Court Judge Susan Johnson and local attorneys Keith Brower and Aviva Gordon. The trial examined the evidence in the death of the victim, a round egg that perished in a fall from a wall in Nurseryland, and provided the young students a real and up-close look at the judicial process. Dumpty had apparently fallen from the wall after he was agitated by Kingsman, who took offense at comments Dumpty made about the King's Royal Horses. The prosecution presented a case of murder, but after 15 minutes of deliberation, the jury concluded there wasn't enough evidence to support the charge. Various jurors indicated after the trial ended that Dumpty's round bottom did not allow him to stay firmly on the wall. The fact the Kingsman attempted to put Dumpty back together again did not appear to them to be an attempt to cover up a crime, but was an attempt to save Dumpty's life. One of the juror's remarked, "All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpty together again, and that was sad." |
