Criminal Records General Information

Requests for Court Criminal and Civil record information are processed as quickly as Court resources are available. These requests are subject to the following guidelines.

  1. When record searches are performed, the criminal information system will be checked 3 different ways, i.e. by Defendant Name, Social Security number, and ID number.
  2. A research request will not be performed if only a name is given to research. A birth date or social security number must also be provided to verify a Defendant’s identity.
  3. If no record exists, “NR” will be indicated next to the request.
  4. If a record exists within the time frame stated, the Las Vegas Justice Court (LVJC) staff will complete either the “Single Case Research” form or the “Multiple Case Research” form. The information provided will consist of the Name, Case Number, Charges, Arrest Date (if applicable), File Date, Disposition and Date, and Sentencing Information.
  5. If the case is listed in the LVJC case management system but is not in our jurisdiction, i.e. Henderson JC or District Court, the case number will be listed on the research form but will be designated as a case out of our jurisdiction. LVJC will not be able to provide any additional information regarding cases out of our jurisdiction.
  6. The statutory research fee must accompany the request. This fee is $1.00 per year, per name, for each year searched.
  7. After research request forms are completed, they may be picked up at any customer service window along with the original receipt of fees. If you want the forms returned by mail, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.
  8. All research requests are generally completed in the order in which they were received, but such requests are subject to being prioritized at the Court’s discretion, depending upon the resources available. Research requests will be processed in the order they are received using customer service records as documentation of the time that the request is received. Many requests will be completed the same day and may be ready for afternoon pickup, but this processing time cannot be guaranteed due to the volume of requests and available resources. Please allow a minimum of 5 - 7 judicial (working) days for requests to be completed.
  9. The processing of records requests is subject to the following disclaimer:

Although the research information provided by Court employees is believed to be correct, information is provided on an “as is” basis, and accuracy and/or completeness cannot be guaranteed. The Las Vegas Justice Court disclaims liability for any errors or omissions relating to the research information provided. Moreover, in no event shall the Las Vegas Justice Court be liable for any damages, of any nature whatsoever, arising out of the provision of research information.

Criminal Records

Criminal Case Record information is available either in person or by mail.

You may obtain records in person from the Las Vegas Justice Court Clerk's Office, 2nd Floor, Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Avenue.  Customer hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, excluding holidays.

Or you can request them through the mail.  Record searches requested by mail should be sent to: Las Vegas Justice Court; Att. Criminal Customer Service Division, P O Box 552511, Las Vegas, NV  89155-2511.  For faster mail service, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Please allow up to 21 - 30 judicial (working) days for a response.

Case Files for years prior to 2002 are stored in a warehouse.  A MINIMUM of 3 additional working days is required to order and deliver these files to the Clerk's Office.  To minimize your waiting period, we suggest you send a FAX request listing the Defendant Name, Case Number, and type of documents you need.  If you provide a telephone number or FAX number, the Court will notify you when the documents are available.  The Clerk's Criminal Office Customer Service Division FAX number is: (702) 671-3175.

If you have an inquiry regarding an arrest or an event number, which occurred in the City of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, or in an area outside of the Las Vegas Township, you must contact Courts in those jurisdictions for information. If you want information on an arrest, or criminal history information, contact the Metropolitan Police Department Records Office, their phone number is (702) 795-3111.

By Statute, customers must pay the required research Fee for criminal case record search requests.  The Fee is $1.00 per Year* searched per Name.  Customers should specify the number of years they want the record search to cover.  Due to Nevada record retention standards, once a criminal case is closed, the information is retained a maximum of SIX (6) YEARS, except for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) cases where the retention period is SEVEN (7) YEARS).  Therefore, records from closed cases older than SIX (6) YEARS, except for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), may not be available.

To ensure complete coverage of the search, please provide the following information:  the Defendant's full name  (Last, First, MI); Date of Birth; Social Security Number; or other identifiers.  *NOTE: If a specific time period for the search is not given (such as five (5) years), then the full TEN (10) YEAR time period will be searched.

The Fee payment should be made to the "Las Vegas Justice Court."  Please use a check or money order for the payment.  Do not send cash through the mail.

Due to Legislative changes, fees are collected from non-criminal justice agencies, the general public and inmates according to the fee structure guidelines.  Any agency of criminal justice will NOT be charged fees as per Nevada Statute 179A.140.  All private customers (research companies, attorneys, etc.) not covered by this Statute must pay for research and documents.  These fees must be provided in advance of the request.

Please be aware, if the records are being used for legal purposes, you may want to have the Court "Certify" the documents as "true and correct copies of the original".

Fee payments are required for document copies and Certification of Records.  The Fee for a Certified Copy of a document is $3.00; and the copying Fee is $ .50 per page.

So that your request is not delayed due to an insufficient payment for searches and/or copies, we suggest sending $25.00 to $30.00 by check or money order for the fee payment. All unused overpayments over $15.00 will be refunded by mail.

Information on the status of Criminal matters is also available from the Clark County District Attorney's Office, (702) 671-2500.  If you have an inquiry regarding a Bad Check, contact the District Attorney's Bad Check Unit at (702) 671-4701.
