What is the Conflict Intervention Team (CIT)?
The CIT is a group of specially-trained mediators. They specialize in addressing large-scale or volatile conflicts.
How does the CIT work?
- The CIT is invited to work with a conflict
- The referring party is interviewed & a decision is made to use the CIT
- The CIT conducts individual interviews
- The CIT mediates conflicts between individuals
- The CIT mediates with the large group
- The referring party receives a summary of the action taken and a prescription to reduce future conflict

How was the CIT developed?
The NJC applied for and received funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant in 1997 to fund the development and training of a team.
Volunteer community mediators and staff were initially trained to provide these specialized services through the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office. Check out their site for more history by clicking here.
